Mumbai receives 438% excess rain in a single day



The Maharashtra government on Sunday extended till June 30 the lockdown in the entire state, and announced easing of restrictions and phase-wise resumption of activities under the "Mission Begin Again". As per the revised guidelines issued on Sunday, all markets, market areas and shops, except malls, will be allowed to function from June 5 on odd-even basis.

While all private offices can operate with up to 10 per cent their employee strength as per the requirement from June 8 with others working from home. This will exlude COVID-19 containment zones, the guidelines said.


Under 'Mission Begin Again', outdoor physical activities like morning walks, cycling will be allowed. Self employed persons like plumbers, electricians, pest control staff and technicians will be allowed to work, but they will have to follow social distancing norms. Garages can also function and customers can visit them with prior appointment.
These activities will be permitted in the red zones of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including Mumbai, as well as Solapur, Pune, Aurangabad, Malegaon, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur. However, such activities will not resume in COVID-19 containment zones, it said.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had on Saturday said 'Unlock-1' will be initiated in the country from June 8 under which the nationwide lockdown effectuated on March 25 will be relaxed to a great extent, including opening of shopping malls, restaurants and religious places, even as strict restrictions will remain in place till June 30 in the country.

"All employees and visitors at the government offices will be screened by a thermal scanner before entering the premises. All employees will have to wear a 3-ply or surgical mask while working in the office all the time," said the state government in its order.
"Windows of the offices will be kept open throughout the day for ventilation. The employee would have to maintain three feet distance from other employees while working," it added.

It also said that from 5 June, all markets, market areas and shops, except malls and market complexes, are allowed to function on odd-even basis from 9 am to 5 pm. However, trial rooms for clothes, apparels etc will not be allowed to function in order to curb the spread of the infection.
It also said that individual physical exercises shall be permitted in open public spaces including beaches, playgrounds, gardens and promenades between 5 am and 7 pm. This will be allowed only at nearby places and no long-distance travel will be permitted, it said.
The week following next Monday, several other relaxations will be provided for the citizens. Movement of passengers will also be allowed in a phased manner from 8 June. However, "Intra-district bus services will be allowed while inter-district bus services will not be permitted," it said.

Apart from buses, other public vehicles will function as follows:
Taxi/Cab aggregator: Driver with not more than two passengers
Rickshaw: One rider and two passengers
Four wheeler: Driver with two passengers only
Two wheeler: One rider with one passenger
In its 'Mission Begin Again' plans, Maharashtra government also added, "Activities related to self-employed people like plumbers, electricians etc will be permitted with social distancing norms and usage of sanitsation and masks."
However, religious places and places of worship, hotels, restaurants, hospitality services, shopping malls, barber shops, spas, salons and beauty parlours to remain closed across the state during the lockdown period.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Saturday announced that the lockdown will continue in containment zones till 30 June and only essential activities will be allowed in those areas.
"Lockdown shall continue to remain in force in the containment zones till 30 June. In the containment zones, only essential activities shall be allowed. There shall be strict perimeter control to ensure that there is no movement of people in or out of these zones, except for medical emergencies and for maintaining supply of essential goods and services. In the containment zones, there shall be intensive contact tracing, house-to-house surveillance, and other clinical interventions, as required," MHA said in its guidelines for Unlock 1.
It also issued new guidelines for phased re-opening of "all activities outside containment zones for the next one month beginning 1 June, 2020."
Meanwhile, with 2,940 new Covid-19 cases getting reported in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, the state's virus count reached 65,168 on Saturday.
With 99 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state's death toll stood at 2,197, said the state's health department.
1,084 Covid-19 patients recovered in Maharashtra on Saturday, taking total number of discharged patients to 28,081. Maharashtra is the hardest-hit state by the pandemic in India.
